Hi ya

Got a letter from the surgeon today

The Mris of the knees have gone to surgical opinion

My left knee has severe degeneration with surfaces utterly destroyed in all 3 compartments and total knee replacement is indicated

The right knee... Degenerative 'changes' and a large effusion and associated synovial proliferation in the supra patella pouch.

Any chance someone knows the English translation? He then says with sufficient response to the rheumatoid drugs surgery could be delayed?

Eh?
I have no bloody knee!

How is any drug going to make a farts worth of difference to that?

Jenni

I think the dictionary definition is "knackered".

As I have said on another post, my Orthopaedic Surgeon has not got a clue about RA and is stunned that I am not running around following the wonderful knee replacement. My knee still blows up like a balloon thirteen months after the operation.

I think your Surgeon must think that RA is reversible with a wonder drug in his imagination. Huh

I think he needs to be "Jenni'd and put straight.

Glad to see you are home and feeling brighter.

Oh jackie
I'm so pleased to read your reply! I did laugh!
They look slightly stunned by me in the surgeons clinic although I'm told the rheummy often speaks with him???

The ra is crap
We need a new knee or 2
I've got a great deal of ra stuff to be operated on

The rheummy explains a lot of hip and back issues are a struggle because of rubbish knee

Yes this is truly baffling! I was interested in what you said about the hip and back being affected by the knee as I have one very sore knee that keeps giving way and not the hip on that side is playing up too. It feels like it nearly pops out of place. I am having physio assessments at the moment so am sure they will explain this more fully to me. Thanks once again and keep us posted on your knee operations. Best wishes from Naomi.

I am having some second thoughts as the left knee isn't hurting too much
The prb is the ankle hip lower back and shoulder are all over the place
Because the knee is shot

Mind you
The leg won't straighten

Prbs with right leg are very related to having no knee for so long in the left
Aaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

It's such major surgery
I'm scared!

Jenni

I am not going to lie to you, having a knee replacement is a major undertaking. I totally underestimated what it would be like. I am now at one year and one month post op and I am still not walking very well and the knee recovery has been greatly hampered by the RA. My knee is still very stiff and blows up like a balloon.

However, the awful grinding every day pain has gone.

I think you have to weigh up the recovery time of possibly two years against the pain you are suffering now. I do need to have my right one done but I am no where near considering having this done as my mobility would be totally impaired with two operated knees if the second one recovers at the same rate as the first.

However, there are many people who have had very successful knee replacements and are running around like spring chickens. I think Jean swears by hers.

It really is a gamble and it is not going to be an easy decision for you. Like everything with RA sometimes it will work and sometimes not.

Whatever you decide I will be thinking about you.

I appreciate that recovery from these ops is different for each of us. As you know Jenni, I sailed through both my knee replacements and also my right hip. OK, so it was a bit awkward at first, but the awful, grinding pain disappeared immediately and you will be thankful for that! I had all my ops when I was overweight, unfit and had high BP but was absolutely fine. I know things may not be so simple for you, Jenni, because of your many medical problems, and I do feel that having both knees done at the same time would be dangerous. xxxxxxxx
